Los Penitentes (temporarily closed)

Los Penitentes, now slumbering, once offered a formidable vertical of 2,018 feet, catering to those who appreciate a substantial descent. Its terrain, when open, would challenge the capable skier seeking the austere beauty of the Argentine Andes. It is not for the faint of heart, but rather for those who prefer their mountains with a bit of grit.

For the adventurous road-tripper, a journey to Los Penitentes would be a distinct expedition. Paired with Vallecitos, but a short drive away, it forms a concentrated Argentine mountain experience. A more ambitious itinerary might extend to Portillo, across the border in Chile, though one should plan for international crossings and the unique character of Andean drives.

Presently, Los Penitentes is temporarily closed, a fact worth noting. Furthermore, it appears upon none of the passes in our current dataset, requiring separate consideration for any intrepid traveler who might one day wish to visit should its slopes ever awaken again.
