Purgatory offers a good 2,000 feet of vertical for its acreage, making for decent fall-line skiing. The 261 inches of snow ensures the surface is generally forgiving. One might find it suits those who prefer reliable, untaxing turns without the pretension of larger resorts.

For a proper journey, Purgatory pairs well with the adventurous draws of nearby Silverton, a mere nineteen miles distant. The drive between the two is brief, scenic, and serves as a good warm-up for the wilder terrain ahead. Telluride, too, stands only twenty-one miles away, offering another contrasting experience should one desire.

As for access, be advised that Purgatory is not currently on any passes we track. This means a direct purchase of a day ticket or seasonal arrangement with the resort stands as your sole means of entry. Plan accordingly, lest ye be surprised at the ticket window.
