Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field

Iwatake, with its modest 1,768 feet of vertical, offers a different disposition from some of its more boisterous neighbors. It’s an agreeable mountain, best suited to those who appreciate a gentler pace or are introducing newer folk to the wonders of Japanese snow. Its 309 skiable acres are often ample enough for such pursuits.

For the road-weary, Iwatake sits comfortably amidst a constellation of other Hakuba Valley resorts. One might easily combine a day here with a short jaunt to Happo-One or Tsugaike, both a mere stone’s throw away. The drives between these neighbors remain mercifully brief, scarcely disturbing the calm.

Those holding the Epic Pass will find Iwatake a welcoming stop on their Japanese itinerary. However, consider the cultural immersion a benefit, for while the snow is dependably deep at 433 inches, the language barrier for some can be as significant as the snowfall itself.
